Every year in February, CEVISAMA is held in Valencia, which is an exhibition of cold cladding manufacturers. Not far from Valencia, in Castellón, there is a significant part of the factories, among which I have become several new favorites. I was amazed by the modern and at the same time timeless collection of Ape Grupo which gives a playful opportunity to create a contemporary interior. For the company, Erico Navazo, a Spanish interior designer, reconsidered the relationship between the traditional terracotta surface and the modern design and designed several tile families under the name “Material Essence”. Until now, terracotta has not really been one of my favorites, but these tile families open up a fantastic new possibilities for their use. I have seen an incredible supply of traditional majolica ceramic tiles, that remindes me to the Moorish past of Spain. Beside those, there were really breathtaking huge slabs, imitating natural surfaces like marble, limestone and can create a very elegant atmosphere. I also really like working with microcement, it gives an opportunity for any designer to create an interesting, easy-to-maintain, and astonishing surfaces.
